In the vast bathroom adjoining the imposing master bedroom, Allan LaMarre works with great care, meticulously assembling precision cut glass panels.
He and his skilled installers began at 7am, piecing together the 8 foot long Euro-Style shower stall which he designed for his client. The freestanding unit is composed completely of glass: seven angled sections, each mitered and seamed together of strength. There isn’t one post to detract from the sparkle of the glass. The installation will take all day. Bay-View won’t leave until the shower stall is perfect.
This project is more elaborate than most that Bay-View Glass ans Mirror Ltd. creates for Essex County homes. To Allan, every job is important, whether it be 3,000 peach tinted beveled mirrors for MGM Grand Casino in Detroit or a two by three foot beveled vanity mirror crafted for a Riverside home. Though known for impressive high end custom applications, “anyone can afford Bay-View,” Allan says. Most of the 20 year old company’s orders are for custom Euro-Style shower stalls. The typical customer arrives at Bay-View’s Windsor or Leamington showroom carrying a file full of magazine clippings and builder’s plans. Touring the showroom and perusing Bay-View’s book of designs, with sales representative, Dan Brooks, helps define the client’s vision. Allan and his staff of eight then get to work, designing plans, fabricating the shower stall in the company’s 7,000 square foot Windsor facility and installing the unit. Allan buys mirror by the truckload so he always has stock which is competitively priced. Since the beveling is done in his own manufacturing facility, no customer ever has to hear that his order is stuck in a Toronto plant or that he has to pay extra for long haul shipping.
The Bevone production beveling machine, automatic air tables and free fall racks enable the staff to get the job done efficiently and cost effectively. If etching is desired on the shower panels, Bay-View commissions an artist to adorn the glass with Adam and Eve, a Roman scene or any other motif the client wishes. Though Bay-View works on many new homes, the company also goes into older residences to transform existing bathrooms. The bathtub is removed to make way for a spacious shower. The area’s floor, walls and ceiling are tiled and maybe treated to a new sunflower shower head. Then Bay-View encloses the shower with glass panels and doors. The Euro door is double acting so it can swing out when you’re getting out. A single door can be as wide as 36 inches for easy access. The rejuvenated bathroom is then visually enlarged and brightened with a new bevelled mirror that can span the length of the room. Going to the other extreme, Bay-View just completed the installation of a curved all glass shower stall that supports itself without posts. Bay-View dosen’t handle the plumbing or tiling; it sticks to what it does best. The company that fabricated and installed more than 500 showers in Casino Windsor has set the standard for construction and installing beautiful, safe and durable shower stalls.
